First Aid Student Responds to Car Crash

Only a few hours after completing her first aid course, one of our recent attendees, Jenny, came across a single vehicle accident. Jenny had to call on her brand-new first aid skills to keep the woman safe.

Just a few hours after completing her first aid course, Jenny came across a young woman who had been in a single vehicle accident and needed medical assistance. Using her brand-new first aid skills, Jenny reassured the woman, helped her communicate clearly with emergency services, and kept her calm while waiting for the police and ambulance to arrive. Reflecting on the situation, Jenny said: ‘I would not have had the confidence and calmness and awareness to help her, along with others, if it wasn’t for attending the course in person’. Though Jenny did not have to perform any ‘hard core’ first aid procedures, like supporting a fractured limb or managing a wound, her ability to take charge of the situation ensured that the woman received prompt medical attention. This subsequently reduced her chances of deteriorating further while simultaneously maximising her chances of making a full recovery – two core tenets of first aid.
